Where each one is stronger

One is a second brain for everything you learn, the other a library for the moments in your videos.

MarkerShelf AI summary of a lecture: a one-line TL;DR and key points, each with a timestamp

MarkerShelf

A video player and library first

The AI is there to help you find and keep moments in the video.

  • Markers save the second with a note and tags. Summary points carry timestamps that jump to the moment.
  • Range markers loop a section, for music, dance, sports or language practice (Marker plan: 3 per video, Pro: unlimited).
  • Pro can suggest a marker note from what was said, using Apple Intelligence on the device when available, otherwise a server.

Recall

One place for everything you learn

Recall is the broader tool. If you want one place for everything you learn, it does a lot that MarkerShelf doesn't.

  • One knowledge base: articles, PDFs, podcasts, recipes and videos.
  • AI chat across everything you saved, with a choice of model.
  • A knowledge graph that links related items, plus quizzes with spaced repetition.
  • Many platforms: iPhone, iPad, Android, web and extensions for four browsers. Also an API and MCP.
  • A free plan with unlimited saving and notes.

Or use both

Recall and MarkerShelf solve different problems, so they work well side by side: Recall for the reading, podcasts and long-term knowledge base; MarkerShelf for the videos you rewatch, practice with or need to quote at the exact second.

Questions

About Recall and MarkerShelf.

Is Recall free?

Recall has a free plan with 10 AI summaries a month and unlimited saving and notes. Plus costs $10/mo billed yearly and Max $38/mo billed yearly; its pricing page does not show monthly prices (recall.it/pricing, Oct 20, 2026, US).

Does Recall work with Instagram?

Instagram is not mentioned on its App Store listing, which names YouTube videos, podcasts, articles, PDFs and TikToks (checked Oct 20, 2026). MarkerShelf works with public Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn videos as well as YouTube and TikTok.

Which is better for lectures?

For lecture videos you rewatch, MarkerShelf. Pro gives the full transcript even without captions, a summary with timestamps and spoken-word search. Every plan can mark exam topics with notes, and Marker and Pro can loop a hard explanation. If you want lecture videos next to slides, PDFs and readings, and to quiz yourself, Recall's quizzes and spaced repetition are a real strength.

Can I use Recall and MarkerShelf together?

Yes. Keep your reading and podcasts in Recall and the videos you study or practice with in MarkerShelf. MarkerShelf exports markers with timestamps and notes as text (Marker plan) or PDF and Markdown (Pro). Exports don't include the transcript or summary.

Is MarkerShelf a second brain like Recall?

No. MarkerShelf is a video library: it saves videos from six platforms and your own, with markers, tags and collections. It does not save articles or PDFs, and it has no knowledge graph or quizzes.

Never lose a moment in a video again.

Save videos from six platforms, keep the moments that matter, and get transcripts and summaries on iPhone and iPad.
