MarkerShelf ("the App," "we," "us") is built around a simple idea: your library belongs to you. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using MarkerShelf, you agree to the practices described below.
The videos you save, and the markers, timestamps, notes, tags, and screenshots you create, are stored locally on your device and synced privately through your own personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. This content lives in your private iCloud database, protected by your Apple ID and Apple's platform security. We do not operate a server that stores your library, and we have no access to your videos, markers, notes, or screenshots — only you, and any devices signed into your iCloud account, can see them.
We collect anonymized product-usage analytics (via PostHog) to understand how the App is used and to improve its features and reliability. This data is not tied to your identity, is never sold, and is not shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
If you choose to subscribe, your purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to track subscription status using an anonymous app-user identifier. No personal information or payment details (such as your name, card number, or Apple ID) ever pass through RevenueCat or through us.
We use the limited information described above to:
MarkerShelf does not require you to create an account or log in. There is no username, password, or email sign-up needed to use the App.
MarkerShelf lets you save and play back videos from third-party platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn, as well as your own videos from Photos and Files. Viewing content from these platforms is subject to their own respective terms and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
MarkerShelf does not download or store video files. Videos play in an embedded web player streamed from the hosting platform, so a video that is unavailable on its platform is also unavailable in MarkerShelf. Transcripts and summaries can only be generated for publicly accessible videos.
The free YouTube looper on markershelf.app uses YouTube API Services. The YouTube player loads from youtube-nocookie.com only after you click to load a video; until then nothing is sent to YouTube. When you use it, the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy apply. We do not store the videos you load or the loop points you set; they stay in your browser's address bar.
markershelf.app sets no cookies. We count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies or fingerprinting.
We also count a few actions on this website with PostHog, on servers in the EU: page views, taps on the App Store button, use of our web tools, changes to the language or price country, links to other websites opened from our comparison pages, and how far a page is scrolled. This uses no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not keep your IP address. With each count we also record your country, as found by the lookup described below, but never your IP address. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is counted. App Store links on this website carry a campaign code (the name of the page), so that Apple's App Store Connect can show us which page led to a download. Apple reports these numbers to us only in aggregate.
To show App Store prices for your country, our own server looks up the country of your IP address once in a local database (IP Geolocation by DB-IP, licensed under CC BY 4.0). The address is not stored or logged, no cookie is set, and nothing is shared with third parties. That country, but not the address, is also attached to the anonymous action counts described above. If you pick a different country, that choice is saved only in your browser's local storage.
Our free YouTube transcript tool sends the YouTube link you paste to our server. The server fetches the video's public captions from YouTube and sends back the first part. We cache that preview per video, not who asked for it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're not a bot (see Cloudflare's Turnstile Privacy Addendum). Your IP address is used only for rate limiting, kept in memory, and is not stored.
Deleting the App from your device removes all content stored locally. Because your library syncs through your own iCloud account, you can also remove synced data at any time via your device's iCloud settings, or by disabling iCloud sync for MarkerShelf. We do not retain a separate copy of your library content once it is removed from your device and iCloud.
MarkerShelf is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
